Sen. Landrieu Places a Hold on Flood Insurance Bill

Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu (D) has placed a hold on the Flood Insurance Reform and Modernization Act (H.R. 3121), which was passed last week by the Senate Banking Committee. The action prevents the full Senate from considering the bill. Landrieu objects to rate increases for the NFIP that the legislation contains. Under Senate rules, any senator can indefinitely block a bill from coming to the floor by placing a hold on it. Landrieu and Louisiana’s other Senator, David Vitter (R) joined forces to block similar legislation from reaching the floor last year.
