Floods Devastate Midwest

Over the past week, areas of Arkansas, Illinois, Missouri and Ohio have been devastated by flooding. And although water levels farther upstream have begun to recede, in other areas, such as eastern Arkansas, they were still rising as of Tuesday, March 25. Residents in the former areas are returning to their flood damaged homes to inspect the damage, while residents of the latter areas continue to pile sandbags and prepare for the worst.

Regardless of the locale, in many instances the difference between a community shocked by floodwaters and one breathing a sigh of relief has been the success — or failure — of the local levee system.

PIA National would like to remind PIA members and state affiliate associations that we are here to help. We have an Agency Disaster Planning Manual available for your use. We can get you ACORD claims forms if they are needed. We can assist with any NFIP/FEMA issues and wish to be informed of any of your questions, challenges, etc., including FEMA Disaster Relief aid/small business aid filings process. Please send any requests to flood@pianet.org.

This event also serves as a timely reminder that all agencies should have an action plan for providing their clients with flood insurance. Whether you’re a seasoned flood insurance professional or have no desire to become one but need to sell flood insurance anyway, the PIA/Hartford Flood Program has a program for you.
