Carriers Win Ruling in Wind vs. Flood Case

U.S. District Judge Richard Haik in Lafayette, Louisiana, has ruled that insurance companies are not responsible for hurricane-related flood damage if homeowners carry coverage only for windstorms.  The judge issued the ruling in a lawsuit against State Farm and Louisiana Citizens Property Insurance on behalf of two families who suffered damage from Hurricane Rita last year.  The suit sought class action status.  A similar case related to flood damage from Hurricane Katrina will be heard in June in New Orleans.
