A group of Obama administration officials are charged with executing the new healthcare law, one of the most profound changes in social policy in years. Among them is Jay Angoff, the former director of the Missouri Insurance Department, who will be in charge of regulating insurers and insurance markets.

An article in the New York Times goes on to profile Angoff and other members of the team. It notes that Angoff, who formerly worked for the National Insurance Consumer Organization, intends to aggressively establish marketplace rules and that he will enforce a section of the law that calls for insurers to file detailed justifications for any “unreasonable increases in premiums.” Calvin Call, executive director of the Missouri Insurance Coalition, said Angoff’s appointment did not bode well for health insurers.
