PIA President-elect Robert Page Addresses Issues in BestWeek Interview

PIA National President-elect Robert Page criticized proposals for federal regulation of insurance and analyzed competing approaches for insuring against natural catastrophes in an interview in the April 23 edition of BestWeek. Page declared that keeping federal regulation out of the insurance industry was one of PIA’s main priorities during the just-completed PIA Federal Legislative Summit.

Page also compared the divergent approaches being taken by two Gulf Coast states to insurance in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. He noted that while the state of Florida has decided to go into the insurance business, his home state of Louisiana is taking the approach of trying to bolster the free market by creating incentives to keep carriers in the state and writing policies.
