President Declares Major Disaster For Iowa

The head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced that federal disaster aid has been made available for the state of Iowa and ordered federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area struck by a severe storm on July 10, 2009. FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate said the declaration makes federal funding available to state and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the severe storm in Black Hawk County. Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures for all counties within the state.
