Independent Agency Ownership of Expirations:
Assessment of Current Challenges, and Considerations for Continuing Action

Beginning in 2000, PIA National received a number of reports that ill-informed officials were implementing and interpreting insurance regulations in a manner that conflicted with the legal rights of PIA agencies regarding ownership and control of agency expirations.  In 2006 PIA National President Ray Peretti appointed a special task force to evaluate current threats to agency ownership rights and develop a strategy for addressing these threats.  The report that follows is the culmination of over a year of the special task force’s efforts.
