Wisconsin Governor to President Bush: Don't Preempt Tougher State Do Not Call Law

Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle (D) has sent a letter to President Bush asking him to prevent the federal do-not-call list from pre-empting Wisconsin's tougher law that allows residents to block sales pitches from telemarketers. Doyle said the national list has loopholes that would allow unwanted calls to Wisconsin residents on the list that would not be permitted under state regulations. He said he is committed to enforcing Wisconsin's standards regardless of what the Bush administration decides.
