AAMGA and PIA Join Forces on Excess and Surplus Lines Education

The American Association of Managing General Agents and the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents have collaborated to create an educational handbook, “A Guide to Writing E&S Business.” The concept was based on an idea brought to the AAMGA Marketing Committee by Coryn Thalmann, CEO and COO of Jimcor Agencies, Inc., after having some discussions with the New Jersey PIA Association. Thalmann described some of the reasons for developing the guide, “We’re definitely a unique segment of the industry and we wanted to create a guide for individuals and entities to learn more about how to transact business with us.”

The PIA National Business Issues Committee provided comments and suggestions to AAMGA during the drafting of the handbook. PIA shared the perspectives of retail independent insurance agencies doing different types of business placements and developing business relationships with the various types of structures available to them as retailers, including the excess and surplus lines wholesale markets. PIA believes very strongly this project is needed and expressed its appreciation to the AAMGA.
