PIA Immediate Past President Donna Pile to Testify at House Hearing on Insurance Regulatory Reform

WASHINGTON, April 13, 2008 — Donna L. Pile, CIC, CPIW, CPIA, the Immediate Past President of the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents, will testify April 16, 2008 before the House Financial Services Committee’s Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Insurance, and Government Sponsored Enterprises.

Subcommittee Chairman Paul E. Kanjorski (D-PA) has called the hearing, entitled Examining Proposals on Insurance Regulatory Reform, to examine a variety of state and federal proposals to address insurance regulatory reform.

This is the third in a series of hearings before Kanjorski’s subcommittee, and the first since Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson released his series of very controversial proposals for regulatory reform, including an endorsement of optional federal charters and the creation of a federal insurance regulator. PIA opposes both proposals. The hearing, however, is designed to focus on positive solutions for regulatory reform.

“The insurance industry is solvent, strong and well regulated at the state level,” noted PIA National President Robert Page following the recent release of the Treasury Department’s proposals. “It needs to stay that way.”

Pile will discuss the remaining steps necessary in order for states to complete the platform for a modernized insurance licensing system for all states with the National Insurance Producers Registry (NIPR).

Founded in 1931, PIA is a national trade association that represents member insurance agents and their employees who sell and service all kinds of insurance, but specialize in coverage of automobiles, homes and businesses.
