Two members of the PIA National Crop Insurance Working Group are in Washington, D.C. this week for the American Association of Crop Insurers (ACCI) conference. Larry McGillis and Kent Olson along with Steve Becher, executive director of PIA of North Dakota, will meet with U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack on Wednesday, May 25. The crop agent group will also meet with Senate Agriculture Committee Chairwoman Debbie Stabanow (D-Mich.). The issues and concerns are focusing on the threat by employees of the Farm Service Agency (FSA) to take back delivery of crop insurance, funding cuts in the 2012 Farm Bill, and threats to farmer subsidies for crop protection. "I've never seen so many problems," said McGillis. "It used to be we got worked up about price determinations or prevent plant rules, but today it is about survival of the program!"
