The Risk Management Agency (RMA) reports that losses paid out by crop insurance companies to farmers last year now surpass $10.7 billion and are edging closer to the $11 billion mark. Propelled by one of the worst weather years in history, farmers and ranchers filed record crop insurance claims. The year easily exceeds the previous record of $8.76 billion in 2008. The top crops damaged in 2011 were corn, cotton, wheat, and soybeans grain sorghum.
