Mike Becker, the executive vice president and CEO of the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents (PIA National), said PIA is fighting to preserve the “very successful public/private partnership of crop insurance” amid a roller coaster of budget cuts for the program. He made the remarks during an interview with Best’s News Service at the recent PIA Federal Legislative Summit (FLS).

“Our focus during the Farm Bill deliberations was preserving crop insurance and preserving the role of the agent [with], fair and just compensation,” said Becker. “We were successful, but then just 30 days after President Obama signed the Farm Bill, he released his 2015 budget proposal which actually recommends further cuts to crop insurance. So it’s been a merry-go-round of cuts, and we are continuing to fight those off to preserve the very successful public/private partnership of crop insurance.”
