PIA National is preparing to file formal comments regarding a proposed federal rulemaking involving the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). If certain changes to the program being considered are adopted, they could have a serious negative impact on PIA members who write flood insurance backed by the NFIP. The proposed changes could have broader implications for agency-carrier relationships. PIA National requested and received a special meeting with officials of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), who administer the NFIP, on Thursday November 6 to press our many concerns over this expedited federal rulemaking process. PIA National will provide you more in-depth information as soon as we complete our filed comments. For additional questions, contact Pat Borowski patbo@pianet.org

Separate from our comments on the proposed rules regarding NFIP, PIA continues to meet with key Members regarding reauthorization of the NFIP. We continue to stress the need for reauthorization of the program before the end of the year. It is imperative that we avoid a repeat of last year's events.

PIA Members and Affiliates: PIA National would appreciate your assistance as we prepare our formal comments on NFIP rules. If you have an agreement with a Write Your Own (WYO) carrier, please provide a copy of that agreement to PIA National. In addition, if you have copies of any previous WYO agreements (the further back the better) please send those to us as well. Give us your contact information, tell us when the relationship with the WYO began, if it is it still ongoingand,if not, when you terminated the agreement with the WYO.

If these documents are in electronic form or you scan them, please e-mail them to Alyssa Keehan alyssake@pianet.org. If you can only fax them to us - please fax to Alyssa at 1-703-836-1279.
