Authorization for the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) is once again set to expire on September 30, 2011.

In July, the House of Representatives passed the Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2011 (H.R. 1309) to extend the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) for a full five years and enact key reforms. The bill, which PIA endorsed, passed on an overwhelming bipartisan vote of 406-22.

The Senate Banking Committee passed a five-year extension last Thursday, which now needs to go to the full Senate floor. However the Senate version is different from the House bill requiring conferencing, which takes time. PIA National is on top of this, as it is one of our top issues. We may need to activate a Grassroots Alert, depending how things go in the coming days. We'll let you know.
