This fall many Americans on the East Coast who had never before considered flooding to be a real threat to them experienced persistent rain that may have changed that mindset. The same was true last spring for many Americans in other parts of the country.

This new awakening, combined with consumer oriented articles and even a recent news release from FEMA, mean that more personal and commercial lines customers than ever before are likely to ask you about obtaining flood insurance for their residences and commercial properties. It also means that your insureds and prospects may be more open to the idea of purchasing flood insurance coverage even in cases where it is not required by a lender.

In either case, PIA members should make sure that they have teamed up with a quality Write-Your-Own (WYO) insurance carrier that can assist them in meeting their clients' flood insurance needs. Since 2004, PIA and The Hartford have joined together to provide PIA member agents the opportunity to offer their customers flood insurance through The Hartford, a premier WYO company. The program is available to PIA members and their policyholders in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

The Hartford is dedicated to providing agents with extraordinary customer service and value. The Hartford Flood program offers an easy enrollment process and extremely competitive commissions. Through their national flood insurance service center, The Hartford offers the most advanced Internet services available. They have two plan offerings for PIA members: The Hartford's Standard program and the Flood Solutions program.

  • The Standard program includes a web-based application process with the agency doing the customer service administration with Internet and live customer service support.
  • The Flood Solutions program includes a streamlined application process with The Hartford's Flood Insurance Processing Center doing most of the work. Flood Solutions simplifies the writing of flood insurance for the agency.
