NFIP Adds New Mapping Tool

The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) has added another mapping tool of most value in making more accurate coastal zone determinations. This tool was recently used in a coastal mapping process in Collier County, Florida. New coastal mapping placed 30,000 properties into floodplains, however using this new technology allowed FEMA/NFIP to “see” that approximately 10,000 properties could be given and were granted exceptions. PIA members and affiliates in coastal states should be aware of this resource which may provide an additional benefit to a newly mapped community.
