This year's Atlantic hurricane season is shaping up to be one of the weakest in decades, with only five named storms so far this year. That is the fewest named storms since the full Atlantic season of 1983, when there were four. That is a very good reason for you to have the "flood talk" with your clients.

It may sound counter-intuitive to talk to your clients about flood insurance as a weak hurricane season comes to an end—but it's not. In the 1994 season, there were only five named storms into October, then two hurricanes formed in early November of that year.

Hurricane season continues through November, and while many properties nationwide are at risk for flooding, not all home and business owners are prepared. FloodSmart, the marketing and education campaign of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), has many tools to help your clients understand their flood risk. Visit www.Agents.FloodSmart.gov for more resources and information.
