The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) now insures less than 5.2 million people, down 9.6 percent since 2009. Speaking during a recent panel at the Florida Chamber of Commerce Insurance Summit, Insurance Information Institute President Robert Hartwig indicated that because of the decline, "more people will be completely uninsured in terms of floodwater damage." He said that will place more of the burden on remaining customers in the NFIP.
