Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has extended its filing deadline for Louisiana policyholders impacted by recent flooding. FEMA's National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) normally requires homeowners to file a Proof of Loss form to claim damages within 60 days of a flood. The agency has authorized an additional 180-day extension, during which a policyholder may submit the form. "The extension applies to Louisiana policyholders who submit claims related to rains beginning on May 16, 2015, through June 16, 2015," said Donelon.
