With the deadline fast approaching to reauthorize the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), many groups are stepping up their efforts. The program is set to expire on September 30, 2017 and efforts to renew and reform the NFIP are underway in Congress. But with lawmakers on recess until after Labor Day, the time available to finish work is short.

In addition to PIA, other organizations are involved in the push to renew the NFIP. State insurance commissioners and their organization, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), have issued a strong call to reauthorize the flood insurance program without further delay.

PIA strongly supports NFIP reauthorization, and also supports sensible solutions for cultivating the private flood insurance market.
