On Jan. 14, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced that close to 6.8 million people have chosen or re-enrolled in a health plan via HealthCare.gov since Nov. 15, with 163,000 doing so from Jan. 3-9. HHS reported that around 8.8 million applications were submitted and over 18 million people have visited the federal exchange site since the start of open enrollment. The department hopes to achieve 9 million enrollments by the final deadline of Feb. 15.
