Efforts to introduce federal and state legislation that would give regulators greater control over the insurance industry have been increasing this year, according to Wolters Kluwer Financial Services' Insurance Compliance Solutions group. More than 10,000 insurance-related measures have been filed from January to July -- an increase of more than 70% from the same period last year, the consulting firm found

The report said that for the first six months there were 169 more bills in Congress on insurance than for the period last year. The complete research report, "Trends and Developments in Legislative and Regulatory Activity," is online here (PDF file).
