PIA National participated in the annual NAIC/NIPR annual E-Reg Conference, which was held April 27-29 in Kansas City. PIA participated in a panel discussion on April 29 regarding federal legislation.  PIA National Assistant Vice President David Eppstein participated on the panel along with Bill Anderson (NAIFA) and Nicole Allen (CIAB).  The panelists discussed the various federal proposals designed to improve insurance regulation. Noting that some proponents of federal regulation accuse the state system of being inefficient, Eppstein asked, "Since when do we turn to the federal government for regulatory efficiency?"

The Producer Licensing Working Group held an interim meeting during the conference and PIA pledged to continue to work with them toward their uniformity and reciprocity goals. Most of the regulators in attendance agreed that they couldn't wait for a possible federal solution to our licensing problems. PIA was encouraged by the participation of several states, including California and Florida. There seemed to be some movement on the discussion of California and Florida perhaps granting reciprocity with other states that conduct FBI background checks.  PIA National is very encouraged by this discussion because it could signal a breakthrough toward a true nationwide licensing system through the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR).
