The Insurance Information Institute reports that the insured losses from the four hurricanes that swept across Florida this season will total between $22 billion and $23 billion.  The combined losses from the hurricanes will represent one of the highest property/casualty losses in history, second only to the $32 billion in insured losses from the terrorist attack that destroyed the World Trade Center in New York on September 11, 2001.  Losses from Hurricane Charley and Hurricane Frances are estimated at $6.8 billion and $4.4 billion, respectively, while losses from Hurricanes Ivan and Jeanne are estimated in the range of $4 billion and $7 billion each.
