PIA National has created a special online resource center to help consumers and PIA member insurance agents coping with the ongoing effects of Hurricane Katrina.

For policyholders the Hurricane Katrina Resource Center has updated insurance company contact numbers for claims filing and information on available assistance.

For PIA Members resources include downloadable ACORD loss forms agents can use to file claims, FEMA/NFIP notices, situation updates and copies of emergency orders and notices issued by state Departments of Insurance in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.

In addition, PIA National is coordinating a volunteer effort to assist PIA member agents in all three states. Some PIA agencies, especially in New Orleans, have been destroyed or damaged. While the agency principals are getting temporary facilities up and running to help their clients, some have also suffered damage to their homes.

While PIA agents themselves will be staying on the scene to help their insureds, some PIA members may need an alternate place for their own family members to stay. Authorities now say that people near the worst-damaged areas may not be able to return to their homes for as many as 16 weeks.

PIA members in every part of the country who are able are being asked to volunteer to host the family members of PIA agents in the impacted areas who may need a place to stay. PIA member agents who are interested in volunteering to accommodate relatives of PIA members are asked to fill out an online form. PIA National will work together with PIA affiliate offices in the three states to match up those who offer to help with those who need it.
