The United States dodged many bullets during the just-ended 2010 Atlantic hurricane season - and this year, there were more bullets to dodge. November 30 marked the end of the most active hurricane season since 2005, with 19 named storms and 12 hurricanes. But there were no direct U.S. landfalls. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is calling the overall season a "gentle giant for the U.S." While the U.S. was fortunate this year, other countries were not so lucky. Haiti, eastern Mexico and Central America were all hard hit by various storms.
