The Heartland Institute, a nonprofit research and education organization, is hosting a panel discussion on January 27 at the Texas Capitol in Austin. The panel will focus on solutions to an insurance environment characterized by high rates and inadequate mitigation.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin will serve as the keynote speaker. Panelists include David Eppstein, PIA National; Dennis Burke, Reinsurance Association of America; Lars Powell, Associate Professor and Whitbeck-Beyer Chair of Insurance and Financial Services at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock; and representatives from the Mercatus Center at George Mason University. Eppstein will highlight PIA National policy, as formulated by the Natural Catastrophe Working Group chaired by Bill McGraw (MS). PIA National is reaching out to our partners in the insurance industry to use these discussions as a platform for creating real solutions that will bring more capacity to underserved areas.
