About 42 percent of Florida and Georgia residents have not made advanced preparations for this year's hurricane season, which began on June 1, according to a recent AAA Consumer Pulse Survey. Moreover, one in five residents said they would not leave their homes even if a named storm caused evacuation warnings, and of those who would evacuate, 49 percent say they would only leave for a Category 3 or greater hurricane.

Floods are the No. 1 disaster in the United States, but only one in five residents in Florida and Georgia have flood insurance, which is separate from homeowners insurance.
