PIA, along with other industry groups has teamed up again with the NAIC to continue progress toward modernizing producer licensing. As part of this process, review teams are holding conference calls with state insurance departments to evaluate what reforms may be needed.  This is a continuation of the nationwide Producer Licensing Assessment and the 2008-2009 outreach project to prioritize remaining areas for meaningful and targeted reform.

The review teams began this year's round of calls with Arizona and are scheduled to hold calls with KY, KS, CT, NE, MD, VT, MI, SC, OH, MS, NY and MN over the next few weeks.  During the Arizona call, Director of Insurance, Christina Urias, said she and her staff will continue to work towards uniformity.  She noted that Arizona has made great progress in the last couple of years and their use of the Producer Licensing Model Act (PLMA), combined with their utilization of the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR), result in more efficient licensing for non-resident producers.

Since the effort began last year, 18 of 31 modernization bills introduced in state legislatures in 2009 were enacted, with eight more carrying over to 2010.  With your help, we will continue to build on that momentum. The regulators said they have benefited greatly by the participation of PIA's affiliates.
