NAIC/NIPR E-Reg Conference Fosters Discussion on Uniformity
The NAIC/NIPR E-Reg Conference was held April 29-May 2 in Kansas City and featured several regulators, including NAIC President Kevin McCarty (FL), discussing ways to strengthen state regulation. The regulators shared their perspectives on several issues, including the Federal Insurance Office (FIO), the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, healthcare reform and market regulation, as well as producer licensing.
The overall theme was that state regulation is strong and progress is continuing to be made by the states on uniformity and reciprocity initiatives. The Producer Licensing Working Group, chaired by Anne Marie Narcini (NJ), met on Sunday, April 29 to discuss their state licensing handbook, adjuster licensing, continuing education and testing standards.
PIA National Assistant Vice President of Regulatory Affairs David Eppstein attended the meetings and continued to convey our support for their efforts to strengthen and streamline state insurance regulation. One area PIA members can be particularly helpful in at this time is to assist with designing test questions for perspective new licensees. Some of the regulators talked about the difficulty they have in designing questions that adequately test applicants’ knowledge of insurance, but are not so difficult as to prevent good people from entering the industry. If you would like to assist your insurance department in this effort, please contact them directly or you can contact David Eppstein firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
