Until recently, few companies took advantage of the terrorism coverage that insurers were required to offer under the new federal terrorism insurance program. But the Wall Street Journal reports that in the two weeks preceding the outbreak of war in Iraq, the number of companies purchasing terrorism coverage surged. Insurers and brokers say many companies were also seeking earlier renewals of existing coverage because of concerns that rates would escalate after a war begins.
