A new research report published by Chicago-based insurance broker Aon reports that insurance industry results improved in 2003 with the combined ratio being cut by more than six points, to 101.1. For commercial risks, the combined ratio declined from 107.7 percent to 103.6 percent.  Among other findings: premium writing continues to increase, albeit at a slower pace than last year; increased capital has provided for more capacity and a strengthening of loss reserves; an upshot of the past hard market is the improved quality of information provided to underwriters; and in general, the insurance market has recovered its equilibrium and is doing well.
