PIA National staff met on Thursday, July 22 with two members of the U.S. Senate to thank them for their support in getting the recent flood insurance reform bill enacted and discuss our other issues of concern. PIA Executive Vice President and CEO Len Brevik led a delegation of PIA staffers including Patricia Borowski, Peter Bizzozero and Ted Besesparis in meetings with Sen. Jim Bunning (R-Kentucky) and Sen. Paul Sarbanes (D-Maryland). Both were instrumental in the recent passage of the Bunning-Bereuter-Blumenauer Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2004 (S. 2238).  Bunning was one of the prime sponsors of S. 2238 and Sarbanes is the Ranking Member of the Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee which had jurisdiction. The legislation reforms and reauthorizes the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

PIA thanked both senators for their support of flood insurance renewal and reiterated PIA's positions on several other issues. PIA conducted two nationwide grassroots action campaigns during June to provide added impetus to efforts to secure passage of legislation prior to the NFIP's scheduled expiration on June 30.
