This reminder may not be useful if you are lucky enough to be a member of PIA of Hawaii - but in much of the nation, temperatures have plummeted to below zero and remained there for weeks. PIA of New Hampshire is reminding homeowners to avoid the damaging results caused by freezing pipes. "Subject to a deductible, most homeowners policies cover damage resulting from frozen pipes, including the repair of the pipe," said Jeffrey Foy, president of PIA of New Hampshire. However, there is no coverage for frozen pipe damage to an unoccupied home or business unless heat is maintained in the building or the pipes have been drained," Foy continued. See PIA's comments in the Dover (NH) Community News (1/23/04).
