The insurance commissioner's office in the state of Washington has issued an advisory to all property and casualty insurers, advising that there should be no denials of auto coverage or rate increases for returning U.S. soldiers because their coverage lapsed while they were on active duty overseas. The bulletin mirrors one issued by North Dakota Insurance Commissioner Jim Poolman.

On May 19, PIA National sent an Action Alert to all state and regional PIA affiliates, urging them to aggressively press their state insurance regulators to make it clear to all insurance companies that write auto insurance in their states, that all underwriting standards on continuous coverage should be waived for all active duty Armed Forces personnel who serve overseas. PIA National Vice President Ray Peretti of Renton, Washington worked with the Washington insurance commissioner's office to secure issuance of their bulletin.
