New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer's run for governor may get more difficult. Another Democrat recently confided to prominent party members that he is preparing to run for the nomination. Thomas R. Suozzi, a suburban moderate and reform-minded Albany outsider, has told friends and allies that he believes support for Spitzer is shallow. Suozzi defied most expectations with his upset victory in 2001 in a Republican stronghold in his race for Nassau County Executive.
