The Editor-in-chief of the Life and Health edition of the National Underwriter, Steve Piontek, recently wrote a column taking to task J. Robert Hunter, the insurance director for the Consumer Federation of America. In unusually pointed terms, Piontek excoriates Mr. Hunter, criticizing him for opposing the inclusion of group life insurance in any extension of the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA).

"I've gone from thinking of him [Hunter] as a noisy pain in the butt to someone who is just deluded enough to do real harm," Piontek says. "Hunter can be counted on to take a position contrary to the insurance industry's - whatever the coverage, the regulation or remedy, it hardly matters. If the industry's for it, he's against it."
