Washington - PIA is in the midst of two simultaneous nationwide grassroots action campaigns - one to secure renewal by Congress of the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA), and the other to ensure that lawmakers approve funds to ensure that the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) can continue to pay flood claims.

"With two critical issues being decided, PIA has pulled out all the stops to make sure that Congress makes the right decisions," said PIA National Executive Vice President & CEO Len Brevik.

TRIA

PIA is urging all of its members to contact their Members of Congress on both issues. On  TRIA, PIA's message is "Just Renew It!" Brevik notes that the differences between the separate bills appoved by committees in the Senate and the House on Wednesday, November 16 "pale in comparison to the overwhelming need to get the renewal done."

"We have full confidence that the remaining details can be worked out. PIA's message to Congress on TRIA takes a page from what Nike says - Just Renew It!"

PIA is also asking members to contact their Members of Congress and urge them to approve the borrowing authority that the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) needs to pay claims that have been filed by flood victims.

Update: On Friday, November 18, both the Senate and the House voted an emergency authorization increasing the NFIP's borrowing authority to $18.5 billion - a $10 billion increase over current levels.

When Congress returns to work during the week of December 5, it is expected to consider legislation that would increase NFIP borrowing authority by an additional $4.5 billion, and at the same time enact reforms to the program.  Funds available through this additional credit extension will be applied to additionally anticipated costs in the nation's flood insurance program until this year's end.

Please take a moment to contact your Members of Congress below to help PIA secure this additional credit extension so that NFIP checks can be issued to valid claimants in a timely manner.
