State officials in California have fined entertainer Michael Jackson $69,000 for failing to provide workers compensation insurance for workers at his Neverland ranch. The California Department of Industrial Relations also issued a stop order preventing the use of any employee labor "until they have obtained workers' compensation insurance." A department spokesman said the workers compensation policy expired on January 10. The department has also sent a letter to Jackson's accounting firm, asking his business managers to pay $306,000 in back wages to 69 employees. Jackson has lived in the Persian Gulf nation of Bahrain since being acquitted of child molestation charges last year.
