Zurich Financial Services Group has appointed Maine Insurance Superintendent Alessandro A. Iuppa as head of Government and Industry Affairs for General Insurance, and as chief government affairs officer, North America. Both appointments are effective January 15, 2007 - two days after his previously-announced resignation became effective and several weeks after his term as President of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) ended.

The company said Iuppa will be responsible for managing the analytical and strategic review of public policy issues impacting Zurich's general insurance operations globally. He will also oversee Zurich's tactical execution of all legislative, regulatory and political activities in the region.

In a report in BestWire, Iuppa said he is likely to be spotted frequently by his former colleagues as he pops into NAIC meetings and other events of interest to regulators.
