Motorists Mutual Insurance Co. will offer a 10% automobile insurance discount to owners of hybrid vehicles in several states. The discount will be offered in Ohio and Indiana beginning May 1, and in Kentucky, West Virginia and Pennsylvania beginning August 1. Motorists Mutual joins The Travelers in offering a 10% discount on coverage for hybrids, which are powered by both gasoline and electric motors. The Travelers discount currently is being offered in 27 states, with plans to roll it out nationwide throughout the year. John Bishop, Motorists' chairman, president and chief executive officer, said in a statement that the company is the first Ohio-based insurer to offer such a discount, which he characterized as an "incentive" for the purchase of a hybrid vehicle.
