According to an analysis by A.M. Best of the latest campaign finance reports filed by 19 declared presidential candidates, Democrats have edged Republicans in the amount of campaign cash raised from the insurance industry. As of the end of April, Democratic candidates raised a combined total of $793,524.33 from industry sources, with Republicans close behind at $733,140. The top three candidates in money-raising from insurance sources were, in order: Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R); Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.); and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.).
