Once again this August, it will be Political Involvement and Advocacy Month. That's when PIA asks each PIA member to engage their elected officials and Congressional candidates during the annual summer congressional recess.

The conventional wisdom had been that the August congressional recess was not a good time to lobby federal elected officials. But starting last year, PIA turned conventional wisdom on its head by designating August as the time to meet with our elected officials - when they were back home in their districts, meeting with their constituents and, to put it bluntly, campaigning for re-election. Far from being down-time, the summer recess is one of the best times for Professional Insurance Agents to spend time with the people who will be voting on issues that are key to the survival and future prosperity of their agencies, when they cast votes in Congress.

As part of the month-long series of activities August 8 has been designated as District Lobbying Day, a nationwide series of in-district visits with Members of Congress, together with a simultaneous online grassroots lobbying campaign.

Find out how you can get involved in PIA's annual Political Involvement and Advocacy Month and District Lobbying Day here.
