The Nebraska Department of Insurance has entered an information sharing agreement with the insurance regulator for Germany, the Bundesanstalt fur Finanzdienstleistungsaufsicht ("BaFin").

The agreement, allowing the Department to share with and receive information from BaFin on a confidential basis, is the first agreement for the Nebraska Department with a foreign insurance regulator. Under the agreement, insurance regulators in Nebraska and Germany will have a formal basis for cooperation and coordination of regulatory efforts to share confidential financial information. The Department anticipates the agreement to be a model for international financial solvency regulatory cooperation between states and European Union (EU) insurance regulators.
