On November 15, the National Conference of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL) Membership Committee met to discuss ways to encourage more states to participate in NCOIL.  There are currently approximately 30 NCOIL member states.  PIA and the insurance industry in general benefit from more state participation in NCOIL. The more our representatives understand about our industry, the easier it is for us to discuss our critical issues with them.

Therefore, PIA offered our support in helping NCOIL encourage non-member states to consider joining NCOIL.  We encourage PIA members, as you meet with your local representatives, to see if they are active in NCOIL and if not, encourage them to look into it.  Increasing the strength of state-based insurance organizations, particularly NCOIL, helps us stave off federal regulation while at the same time improving the current state-based system. Over the next few months, NCOIL officers and chairs will be visiting states that are not currently NCOIL members. Some of them, such as NCOIL President Alan Sanborn, said they will be contacting PIA National to get our help in coordinating visits with our members. We'll keep you apprised.
