The target date for PIA's August District Lobbying Day has been moved from August 5 to Tuesday, August 18.  This is due to the fact that the Senate is now scheduled to be in session through Friday, August 7, and the House may stay in session through August 7th as well if Speaker Pelosi and other House leadership think that they have enough support to pass health care reform legislation in the House. In the Senate, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has said that the Senate will not vote on health care legislation until after the August recess.

If you have already scheduled an in-District visit with your congressman or woman for August 5, you should double-check the status of your appointment. You may find that your meeting is still on, but check to be sure, as your appointment may need to be rescheduled.

Of course, the date we announce for District Lobbying Day is always a target date - we realize that members schedule their sessions when their Members of Congress can accommodate them on their individual schedules. If you are rescheduling, please let us know by emailing Mike Becker at mikebe@pianet.org.

PIA National is asking all PIA members to visit their Members of Congress during the August recess. We hope each U.S. Representative and Senator is overwhelmed by visits, scheduled in advance, and online communications from PIA members.

This is your chance to talk about issues that concern you as an independent insurance agent and small businessperson. In addition, if you are interested in supporting a pro-insurance, pro-business member of congress or candidate who is running for national office, this is a great time to get involved in election campaigns.
