As the month of August draws to a close, PIA Month is moving into its home stretch. For the fourth year in a row, members of PIA across the nation have been meeting with their members of Congress in their home districts during
Political Advocacy and Involvement Month. While the focal point was the August 18 District Lobbying Day, contacts have been occurring throughout the congressional recess.

While we have been receiving many reports from PIA members who have had successful in-district congressional visits this month, a few have reported unusual difficulty in scheduling appointments. In these cases, no exact reason has been given. This has occurred in several districts where our members have good relationships with their Members of Congress, and where lawmakers have not been reluctant to meet in the past. Our best assessment is that with the level of fury being exhibited at town hall meetings on health care, a few Members of Congress are deciding to "lie low" this August.

You still have time to make your voice heard!  Contacting your Member of Congress is just a click away. PIA makes it easy for you. Just logon to PIA National's Online Grassroots Action Center. There you will find a list of PIA's Issues of Focus. Just click on any of them to send your message. Each has suggested text, but we encourage everybody to make the message personal.
