A former state official and veteran lobbyist has been named Vermont's next commissioner of Banking, Insurance, Securities and Health Care Administration. Steve Kimbell was named by Democratic Governor-elect Peter Shumlin. Kimbell served as a legal aid attorney and state planning director before co-founding a lobbying firm in 1987, from which he retired in July 2010. He is as a leading policy expert on energy, telecommunications, transportation, education and environmental issues. Kimbell is also credited with leading the successful lobbying effort for the state's same-sex marriage law. At a press conference, Kimbell said the regulated community can expect a "consistent, predictable and collaborative approach to regulation" from him.
