November 2, 2010

Every two years, it all comes down to you.

Tuesday November 2, 2010 is mid-term Election Day across the U.S.A. It is the day when all of the pundits and prognosticators take a back seat to the people. Every two years, every American has an equal voice in determining the future direction of their government.

Much of the attention every two years is on federal offices - in the non-presidential election years, that means every seat in the House of Representatives and one-third of the Senate. But that's not all that is at stake.

"The media tends to focus exclusively on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., but as a state-regulated industry it is critical that we do not forget the impact of our state legislatures," said PIA National Executive Vice President & CEO Leonard C. Brevik, in comments for an upcoming article in American Agent & Broker magazine. "In this election, 37 governorships are on the ballot, along with control of many state legislatures. This is important, because state legislatures and state insurance departments have a significant impact on our industry."

PIA National will send out a short press release congratulating the winners of the elections and offering brief remarks on Wednesday morning, November 3. (Alert to PIA Affiliates: please distribute this press release additionally at will). Then, over the next several weeks as the dust settles PIA National will be offering more in-depth analysis in the insurance trade press, along with upcoming issues of PIA National Newsline and PIA Connection. As usual, our focus will be on answering the question, What Does It Mean to Agents?

PIA members across the country are known for their involvement in the political process, so it may seem like it is redundant to remind all PIA members to vote. But because the stakes are so high, we're reminding you one more tine: Vote! The power to affect the future of your businesses and those of your PIA colleagues in a positive manner is in your hands.

Use your power! Vote!
